Binance: proving you own your self-custody wallet

For your own self-hosted wallet, Binance documents a Satoshi test from Address Management. For a third party's self-hosted wallet, you make a declaration and the address is marked "Declared".

Never share your seed phrase or private key. Binance only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.
Binance runs different legal entities in different countries, so what you see may differ. This guide follows Binance's global FAQ.

When Binance asks

Where: Varies by Binance entity and country (Travel Rule questionnaires differ per jurisdiction)

Threshold: Not stated in the Binance FAQ we checked. The questionnaire and verification depend on your jurisdiction and the counterparty.

Accepted verification methods

MethodStatusDetails
Satoshi testAcceptedDeposit a pre-set, exact amount in the coin and network you chose (for example 0.00000208 BNB-BSC). The address shows "Pending", then "Verified" once the deposit is credited, and the test amount is credited to you.[1]
DeclarationAcceptedFor addresses Binance cannot technically verify, such as a third party's self-hosted wallet, you declare that the information is true, accurate and complete. The address is marked "Declared".[1]
Message signingNot listedBinance's official Satoshi Test / Travel Rule Address Book FAQ documents the Satoshi test and declaration only. It does not describe message-signature verification for self-hosted wallets.[1]

Step by step

Verify your own self-hosted wallet (Satoshi test)[1]

  1. Go to the Address Management page and click [Add] → [Add address].
  2. In "Save address", fill in the address label, coin, address and network, then click [Save].
  3. When the "Verification Reminder" appears, click [Verify Now].
  4. Answer the address confirmation questions: choose "I am sending the funds to myself" and "Private Wallet", then click [Next].
  5. Pick the verification method and the deposit token for the Satoshi test, then click [Submit].
  6. Deposit the exact pre-set amount in the correct coin and network to the deposit address shown.
  7. The address status shows "Pending" while Binance waits for the result.
  8. Once the deposit is credited, the status changes to "Verified". Click [Verified] to see the details.

Declare a third-party self-hosted wallet[1]

  1. In Address Management, click [Add] → [Add address] and save the label, coin, address and network.
  2. Click [Verify Now] at the reminder.
  3. Choose "I am sending the funds to another beneficiary", then "Individual", then "Private Wallet", and click [Next].
  4. Click [Check Verification Status]. The address shows "Declared".

Common errors and fixes

Address stuck on "Pending"

Binance changes it to "Verified" only after the test deposit is credited. Check that it has confirmed on-chain.[1]

Satoshi test sent on the wrong network or coin

Binance says to deposit the exact amount in the correct coin and network, for example BNB on BSC. A different network will not match.[1]

Address status is not verified

Binance's FAQ says an address may show this status if you have not completed verification yet, or if the information provided was incorrect. Check the address status, provide accurate details, and run [Verify Now] again. Withdrawals to an address that is not yet verified still require the questionnaire.[1]

Questionnaire asks for different fields than this guide

Binance's Travel Rule questionnaire differs by jurisdiction (its developer docs show separate field sets, for example for Japan). Follow the fields your app shows.[3]

FAQ

Do I lose the Binance Satoshi test amount?

No. Binance says the test amount is credited to your account when the test succeeds. You still pay the network fee.

Will I need to verify the same address again?

Binance says that once an address is verified or declared, future withdrawals to it can be pre-filled without the questionnaire.
